Why Fit A Home EV Charger?
A dedicated home charge point means faster, cheaper charging overnight, without ever needing to queue at a public station.
Faster Charging
A 7kW home wallbox can fully charge most EVs overnight, far quicker than a standard three-pin plug.
Smart App Control
Schedule off-peak charging, track energy use and monitor sessions right from your phone.
Lower Running Costs
Charging at home on an off-peak tariff typically costs far less than public rapid chargers.
Full Certification
Every install includes commissioning paperwork and a compliance certificate for your records.
Choosing An EV Charger Installer
What happens during a home visit
A local installer will usually check your existing fuse board, the route the cable will take from the board to your parking space, and the earthing arrangement of your property. This helps them recommend the right charger type and mounting position before any work begins.
Choosing a charging speed
Most homes are suited to a 7kW charger, which comfortably tops up a car overnight on a standard single-phase supply. Properties with a three-phase supply may be able to support faster charging, and your installer can confirm what your home can handle.
Tethered or untethered charger?
A tethered charger comes with a built-in cable, which is convenient for daily use. An untethered unit uses your car's own cable, giving you flexibility if you switch vehicles or cable types later on.
Planning permission basics
Most driveway and wall-mounted chargers don't need planning permission. Exceptions can apply for listed buildings or chargers installed near a highway, so it's worth checking with your installer if either applies to your property.
Before You Book, Check:
- Your fuse board has spare capacity for a new circuit
- The distance from the board to your parking space
- Whether you want app-based smart scheduling
- If your driveway or wall surface needs any prep work
- Your EV's maximum onboard charging rate
